I'm borrowing this idea from the crazy chorister- thanks!
Time Machine- Follow the Prophet
I built a time machine out of PVC pipes and covered it with black sheets. I added a beeper and a spinning wheel with an arrow to point to old testament times, new testament, Book of Mormon, or Modern Day.
Intro: Hold up a picture of Pres. Monson. I love President Monson and know that if I follow what he says I will be safe and have peace. There have been many other prophets who showed the way to have peace. Some of them lived a long long time ago. Wouldn't it be fun to meet some of the long ago prophets? Well, luckily- today we have a time machine! In order to get it to work, we need to learn the chorus for "Follow the Prophet".
Most kids know the chorus- so this shouldn't take long. I am teaching a few hand movements with it.
Then- safety goggles on, press the beeper and - out walk Adam and Eve. They are surprised and thrilled to see so many of their descendants. "Oh look Eve, she has your nose!" "I'm your great, great, many greats grandpa!"
I am Adam- first prophet that you know.
We live in Eden and help things grow.
I serve the Lord and follow his ways.
You are our descendants in the latter days!
Eve has four apples with the actual words to the verse written on them and we put them on a tree drawn on the white board.
We learn the verse by singing it and taking down one apple each time. Great singers get to pick an apple.
Love, love, love this idea. I've had a blast making the time machine. I thought about using a fog machine and twinkle lights, but my husband stopped be before I went that far.
Should be fun tomorrow- and through the rest of the month as more prophets visit from the past!
