(Posted on Yahoo Group by Lisa, AZ) I want to do a Superbowl of singing this week. Esp for Sr b/c we are in AZ and our team is playing. I have in my head how to make a field from a green mat and white tape, but I'm not sure how to play the game AND learn a song. I thought about making questions about songs, which word comes next? But that is all I have. I've only been in since Christmas. Any ideas on how I can work this game? The week after that...ward conference with Stake Visitors! Thanks. Lisa, AZ

you could have the goal lines be different songs, or different verses of particular songs that you are working on. You could do either the little triangle football that the kids can "flick" and depending on where it lands you sing that song/verse.

I'm going to use it to progress through "HFAF" from the ten yard line on the shaky foundation side of the field to the goal on the firm foundation side of the field. I'll use the football game all month to just chug the ball along each ten yard line as they learn the lines in the two verses. A progress football field.

I don't know if this will help with the game, but if you want different ways to practice the songs you're working on, you could have them throw the ball at yard lines that correspond with these "football fanatics" I use in a football game of mine: For example, 10 yd. line could be the first example... Blue team vs. Red team (or whatever colors) we had the kids with warm colors (reds, pinks, etc.) sing when we touched the head of one of the players wearing that color, and the kids wearing cool colors (blue, green, purple, etc.) sing when we touched the head of the player wearing a cool color. Time out! (When a volunteer makes a T with his/her hands, the kids stop singing for a time out, then begin again when the T is down) Flag Down on the Play volunteer “ref” raises flag when something is sung incorrectly and the play needs to be "reviewed in slow motion"... kids sing tough spot again slowly. Touchdown catch have the kids stretch up in the air on one leg to make a big play while they are singing (you could do it on certain words, or just when the volunteer child does it.) Do the wave (volunteer "cheerleader" leads wave while kids are singing) Coach's hands on your head (I cover my head if something sung incorrectly, and my team has to have an extra practice on that line).
switch seats (ticket problems) … when certain word is sung, switch seats in "the stadium" victory/team song (pump fists up in air to the beat of the music) Eagles vs. Jackrabbits (sing legato or staccato, I hold up a picture of a soaring eagle or hopping jackrabbit for this one.) Lions vs. Sharks (sing loud or quiet, again... depending on which picture, a lion or shark, is being held up) Half Time (quietly walk away from seats and try to get back by the end of the song/line you are singing) Like I said, these may not tell you how to play a game, but our kids loved doing them all, and they fit the football theme. Maybe it will get your creative juices flowing:) Hope it can help a little. Julee Smyrna, TN

I would be cautious about promoting Superbowl Sunday in Primary.

I would be cautious about promoting Superbowl Sunday in Primary. Sure, we don't want to endorse anything not church related. Someone posted something that was helpful, talking about how they have championship games at the end of a sports' season, and in primary they were going to be champion singers. And then she incorporated the football theme. I'm in AZ, and the Superbowl is all the buzz, that's for sure. I personally didn't think it fit to teaching (where we have to repeat and repeat) and I wanted to focus more on the foundation/faith part. I rarely play games on the first Sunday teaching. But I really love all the football ideas, and when I told the kids to look forward to next week when we'll be re-enforcing the song by playing a football game, they were really excited. So thanks for all the ideas!
