This is my first year. I am still trying to get a feel for which part is mine and which part is the PResident's. She has a lot of imput and is very vocal in what I do. So my question is this. How involved is your President in which songs you teach and when? I was just told she and her counselor what to speak with me again. Maybe I should be worried I guess I should give a few ex. She decides what song we sing for each month and holiday. She changes that based on how well the kids are doing. We had them picked for the year and now changes are going to be made. I will not have a say how we sing them in the program probably. Is this normal?

I guess it depends on what you mean. The songs that you sing for the program are picked by the Church and then you sing one of those each month . . . so in that respect I think it is okay for your Primary President to hold you to that. You know about the Program Outline, right? If you are talking about the two songs we get to choose, and you want to choose them, or at least have some input, I think it is perfectly okay for you to ask for that. I don't know officially whose job it is, but I know my President gave me the freedom to pick what I wanted and then get it approved through her. I would have worked with the counselor writing the program, but she said she could integrate any song I chose. As for Holidays, same thing applies to what we sang in sacrament meeting--I had to get it approved, but it was my choice. However, what we did during singing time was completely up to me as long as I was fulfilling my responsibilities to teach the kids the songs. What you do on a weekly basis (lesson plans, which songs you work on, etc.) should be up to you. So if your President is picking out your wiggle songs, saying that you can only work on the first verse of How Firm a Foundation next week, or telling you how to teach the songs, then a line has definitely been crossed, in my opinion. You should be given some level of control over your calling. You are not there to execute the desires of your Primary President.
