I've recently been called as primary chorister and I have zero musical experience or talent. I've been doing it for about a month and I'm catching on, but this is the first week I have to teach a new song. As I've been researching teaching strategies, the predominant advice is to sing the song while teaching rather than reading the words. My problem is that I can't sing! What do I do?

If you have access to the Children's Songbook CD's with the words, you can use those as well. I can sing, but when I have a cold...my voice just doesn't work, so I use the CD's at that time.
Also, you'd be surprised at how many of the children already know a song. You could ask for "helpers" to help you sing the song.

I don't sing solo for them. I'm not comfortable with that, although I feel like I AM singing solo once in a while, but... When we learn a new song, I sometimes have the pianist play the music while I go through the words with pictures or what ever. Usually only a phase at a time. Then I just have the children try it. Repetition is the key to remembering! Relax and have fun!!
