Hi, I'm Elizabeth and although my calling is Young Women President and Branch Pianist, I volunteer to do the music for Primary because we don't have enough active members to fill all the callings. I have been Primary Chorister several times throughout the years and agree that it's one of the best 'jobs' in the church.
I have a son who served a mission in Seattle '96-'98 and a step-daughter (2 grandkids) and a step-son. My husband is not a member of the church but supports my activities. For 21 years I was the only one in my family who was a member (joined in NY), then 1 of my brothers joined (blames it on my giving him a Book of Mormon that he hauled around for 10 years before reading it and being converted!) ;D
I moved to this area about 3 years ago and of course, the first question is, "Do you play the piano?" The answer was, "No, I play the guitar, but I can read music." So, I was called to be the Branch Pianist and started teaching myself to play piano. [While my husband supports my church activities, he wasn't about to pay for piano lessons on a fixed retirement income!] So, who says an old "dog" can't learn new tricks!!
Since we have no-one else to play piano, I use the CDs while teaching, and even for our program since that is what they are used to. We have been combining Jr & Sr because we rarely have the same kids showing up each week which is a challenge to teaching, I might add. But, all who come are enjoying the music time, so all is well.
I have enjoyed the discussions on the Yahoo Group and look forward to the success of this format.
