This will be my first Sunday... Our previous chorister was responsible for welcoming the children into the Primary Room after Sacrament Meetin, getting them settled, having a reverence song and inviting a child to give a prayer, then goes right into Singing Time. The explanation I was given was that we are short on teachers (even one less now that I'm the chorister), and the presidency members are all needed in the hall to get visitors to the right classes, deal w/ the teacher shortage, etc. But do I have the authority to open the meeting? How is this transition period handled in other wards?

I get there very quickly and I start singing with the children ASAP. No piano needed, just start singing. Since they have been sitting, I start with movement songs but done in a slow and deliberate way - stretching up and down. Not the "rev up" style. Repeat the same song over and over a few times just changing little things. I want to keep them moving and standing and singing. Its like free singing time! Then when the Pres comes in we sing a short prayer song and she gives a short welcome and then the prayer. Next is sharing time so I have a moment to get ready for singing time. I love that!
