My PP would like me to teach the children the songs for all the scriptures. I haven't had much time for them yet, but in senior primary we have started learning "The Books of the Old Testament". I have just had them pull out their scriptures and turn to the Table of Contents so they have the words in front of them. The tune is one they know, so we've been going through it the last two weeks when the first come in from class, right before sharing time starts.
That's not much of an idea, but it's all I've had time for. I'd love to hear anyone else's success with any of the scripture songs.

There's a great idea in the Yahoo group about doing the Macarena to the Books of the New Testament. The New Testament song is tricky, though, so I taught the song yesterday and I promised them we'd try the Macarena next week. I think it will be a blast! Maybe you could do some other dance for the Old Testament? I don't know whose idea the macarena idea was, but here it is below. n Thanks to whoever contributed this. What a fun idea!
Here are the actions! If you have any questions let me know. The Books of the New Testament are in the Song Book. Not sure what page. If you are my age you would have learned the melody and words way back when primary girls were Merrihands, Gaynotes and Firelights or something like that. We all learned the Books of the New Testament by learning the song. The kids love this.
New Testament Song to the Macarena Write the words to the song on a chart. Play the song The Book of the New Testament CS Pg 116. Have the kids stand and do the macarena to the song. They will go through it 3 times. My kids love this!!!! They ask to do it every Sunday!!! Even when they see me at school they ask if we can sing it again!! Actions are : Beat 01: R arm straight out - in front of you - PALM DOWN Beat 02: L arm straight out - in front of you - PALM DOWN Beat 03: R arm straight out - in front of you - PALM UP Beat 04: L arm straight out - in front of you - PALM UP Beat 05: R hand grasps inside of the L arm - at the ELBOW Beat 06: L hand grasps inside of the R arm - at the ELBOW Beat 07: R hand behind R - back of NECK Beat 08: L hand behind L - back of NECK Beat 09: R hand on L - front PANTS POCKET Beat 10: L hand on R - front PANTS POCKET Beat 11: R hand on R - back PANTS POCKET Beat 12: L hand on L - back PANTS POCKET Beat 13: Move your rump to the LEFT Beat 14: Move your rump to the RIGHT Beat 15: Move your rump to the LEFT Beat 16: CLAP and turn 90 degrees to the RIGHT REPEAT all 16 beats When you get to Hebrews... there's a fermata in the music, so wait to swing your hips until you start the epistle of James. Oh, and John, John, John is second beat of putting your palms UP.
