I'm going to start My Eternal Family a week early (next Sunday) since my kids are doing extremely well with The Family is of God and How Firm a Foundation.
The only things I can think of are a construction hat, signs that have some key words on yarn - sort of like lanyards - to get the kids participating. If I just try to teach them words without acting it out, they lose interest REALLY fast.
Any suggestions? TIA -

I found a "Bob the builder" hat at a yard sale and some plastic tools. I also printed out a flip chart and had a kid wear the hat or hold a tool and hold the page. The kids like this song A LOT and pick it up fast. It was harder for me because I didn't know it well. I have had to sing it to my kids for bedtime, just to learn it all.
I think it would be great to make a kid and use a string and make him "grow tall" for that page of the song. Somehow make his legs get longer. I don't have it all together, so I have not done it yet.

I'm going to wear a toolbelt that has real tools that are labeled as the figurative tools in the song. For example: a pair of pliers could be "seeking the Lord in prayer." I'll tell the children that just as we need tools to build a house, we also need tools to build a family, and I'll ask them what kind of tools they think they'd need for building a family. As they guess them, I'll pull the (real) tool out and discuss it (the figurative tool).
I also have handouts that have the words to the song on one side and a picture of a toolbox on the other side. As we discuss my tools, I have little cards that have a picture of the literal tool on one side and the figurative tool written on the other. They will add these cards to their toolbox so they can have the tools necessary to build their families.
